Lion Bill's Vision
Elizabethtown Lion's Club 2004-2005
Initially, I feel our club has had strong leadership for a number of years. I can only hope to continue building on our past successes. I will need help from my predecessors to make this happen.
I also realize that each President should present his agenda that should translate into some type of growth for the club. Lion Mike's emphasis on membership enhancement was one of his major thrusts. I intend to continue in this area of concentration, However, I plan to add my personal touch to this process. The following questions need to be answered before I can proceed:
1 .Do we want to work harder to recruit women? They make up over 50% of our population and several local clubs are flourishing because of their presence.
2. Do we want to bring into our membership people of various ethnic backgrounds? There are prominent persons of different backgrounds including Asian American, Hispanic and African American living in our community and surrounds.
3. Do we want to develop a Branch Club? We could help the people who reside in Masonic Village to set up such a club. They could meet at the Village and wouldn't have to travel at night.
Along these same lines, I feel we should evaluate how effective our orientation program is for new and old members. Orientation is a never ending process and keeps everyone closer to the ideals of Lionism. Another concept that needs to be addressed is the fact that only about 50% of our current membership is active. Is it too idealistic to expect members to attend regularly? Could we do something constructive that would energize our members and increase our numbers? I am considering the possibility of brainstorming at one of our meetings to determine what our club is doing to bring in new members or chasing them away. These are some of the issues I will be looking at and working on during my tenure as President. Each of you can expect a call from me at various times for instruction and/or information.
Thank you. I look forward to a great year in Lionism.
