President’s Message

Last month I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about Lions and what other clubs do.  Again I saw we are truly one of the best clubs in a great organization and should be proud of our accomplishments.

First, I spent a night chatting with the Hershey President and discussed club activities and District structure at HEP night.  (HEP stands for Hershey, Elizabethtownand Palmyra Lions.)  It was nice, too, as we had 15 members attend and hear a senior at Hershey High School share about the history of Hershey.

Then, Lions VP Joe Ditzler and I traveled to New Holland for Presidents Honor Night.  I must admit that I thought this was going to be a long drawn out event.  Boy, was I wrong!!!  I learned about many Lions Activities at other clubs.  The Lion fellowship was great – I don't think I laughed that hard in a long time.  The speaker was also very good.  A Lion from New York, he shared inspiring and humorous stories.  We also enjoyed an endless supply of food.  But the true highlight was when they announced the Presidents, and read my name … if you would have seen and heard Lion Joe you would have been impressed (or scared).  Needless to say, he stole the show!!

It's nice to get a broader perspective of what it is to be a Lion.  I am very proud to be a Lion and to serve!

Programs for May

Tuesday, May 9, 6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall – We have talented individuals in our Club who can speak on many different interesting topics and the program at this meeting will feature one such member – our long-time Club Treasurer, Paul Lesoine.  His talk will be about his experience in building a kayak.  Should be quite interesting.

Tuesday, May  23, 6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall – Bob Ardner, our program chair for this month, has arranged for Kim Williams to be with us to present a slide show about her through hike of the Appalachian Trail.  You've all heard about people who have done this rigorous hike, now come and relive the experience with someone who has done it.  You'll want to be sure to attend this night!

Nice work, Jay and Ken!

Through the hard work of the members, and the leadership of Jay Greider and Ken Greider, we once again – for the umptyumth consecutive year – held a successful Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the community.  Nice job, Lions, and a large "Thank You" goes out to Jay and Ken for a job well done.

State Convention

The annual state convention of Pennsylvania Lions will be held this month in Scranton.  This is always a fun event, and educational as well.  There will be exhibits, training sessions, banquets, and of course, a big parade. Any Lion is eligible to attend, but you must act quickly to get your registration material sent in.  If you are interested in attending the State Convention, contact Lion Secretary Dale Horst for more details and the necessary forms.

District Youth Camp

The District Youth Camp will be held at Camp Kenbrook (in Lebanon County) the week of June 25-30.  This program is designed for youth ages 14 –16 and is being chaired again this year by Lion Jane Newcomer.  If you know of an eligible boy or girl who might benefit from attending this camp, please contact our Secretary Dale for the necessary registration forms and information.  But, you must act quickly – registration deadline is May 15.

                *  Has anyone ever made strawberry longcake?

                *  You really have insomnia if you can't sleep when it's time to get up.

                *  I went to magician's school but flunked the final exam.  They were all trick questions.

                *  Baseball players are smarter than football players.  You never see a baseball team penalized for having

too many players on the field.

                *  "Dad, where is yesterday's newspaper?"  "Your mother wrapped the garbage in it and threw it away."

"Aw, gee.  I wanted to see it."  "There wasn't much to see – just a few egg shells, a couple apple

                                cores, and some coffee grounds."
