President’s Message
Finally, winter is here! When we left our last meeting we experienced thunder snow and as I write this I see temperatures in the 20's. But the cold will not keep us Lions from working! We are back to a normal schedule this month for meetings and between this month's meetings the Past Presidents will meet to chart the future of the Club. To help with this I would like all Lions to look at the committees and leadership positions within the Club and let me or one of the VPs know what new responsibility within the Club you're interested in taking on.
Our Club is recognized as one of the strongest in the area because we do, we serve and we have fun! As President I have come to realize that our Club has this reputation because we have a history of tremendous leadership from committee chairs to past Presidents. I have learned a great deal as a leader and I strongly recommend you consider doing the same. By mid-February we hope to have next year's leaders identified so hurry up and let us know before the opportunity passes you by!

Lions Help Line
In the December newsletter we explained, briefly, a concept which Lion Bill Earhart was developing to provide a system for helping our fellow members when they are in need of transportation. That plan has now been finalized, and the enclosed chart provides all the information you will need to know. The basic idea is to have a list of members who are available to transport any member of our Club who needs a way to get to such places as Doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, to the pharmacy, to therapy appointments, etc. Although we all hope we will never be in such a situation, we also know that it is a real possibility, and that is why our Club members have volunteered to assist. Remember our motto – "We Serve." So, file this chart in a safe place, and if/when you ever need a ride, use the chart to find a fellow Lion who will be happy to help out.
A large "Thank you" goes out to Lion Bill for recognizing the need, and then stepping up to do something about solving it and, of course, to all the Lions who are available to do the task.
Programs for February
Tuesday, February 14, 6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall – Since this is a special day on the calendar, we will not have a program, per se, but we will have a meeting. We'll have everything except a speaker. Perhaps this was designed this way to allow a little more time for those forgetful Lions to still make that purchase to take home with you that evening. (You better know what I mean!)
Tuesday, February 28, 6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall – As you know, our Club is in need of some fresh ideas for fund raisers, and this meeting is planned as a way of generating some of these. We need all members to contribute to this process so we will be doing some "brainstorming" this evening. So, be sure to give it some thought as this month rolls along and then, on the last day of the month, join us to share your ideas for
improving the Club's projects.
Great Work, Lions!
At our meeting on January 24 two Committee Chairmen reported on the results of the fund raisers which they led. Lion Joe Ditzler announced that our pie sale in November resulted in the sale of 400 pies – 180 shoo-fly, and 220 Holiday pies – and a net profit of $700.00. That's good news, and Lion Joe and his committee are to be congratulated on the work they did, and a "Thank you" goes to each Lion who sold pies. But, having said that, the bad news is that over the past five years oursale of pies has decreased by 62%! There are reasons for that, which we don’t have space to address here, but the point is that the pie sale, formerly one of our major fund raisers, is in serious jeopardy. We, as a Club, need to address that issue.
The other project reported upon was the Collectible Commemoratives (usually referred to as "ornaments"). Lion Tom Trayer volunteered to lead this project, despite the fact we were about two months behind at the time he took over. Due to his diligent efforts, and those of his committee, we are happy to report that the sale of these small gold keepsakes provided a net profit of just over $2300.00 this year. Lion Tom said that some of the vendors who graciously agreed to sell these in the community for us told him there were customers asking for the ornaments before we had them available. Additionally, we sold some ornaments left from the previous two years we have run this project. The point is, there is a growing market in our community for our ornaments and we need to keep this going.

Past Presidents Meeting
The annual Past Presidents Meeting will be held Tuesday, February 21, at Acorn Farms (the same place as last year) beginning at 6:30 p.m. All Lions who have served as President of the Elizabethtown Lions Club are encouraged to attend. In addition, any current member who has served as President of any other Lions Club, and the current Vice-Presidents of our Club are also invited to attend.
Remember …

Youth Seminars
If you know of any high school student in grade 11 who may be interested in attending the Lions Youth Seminars in March, please contact Lion Secretary Dale with his/her name. Also, you might be looking for a boy or girl aged 14-16 who might be a candidate to attend the Summer Youth Camp. Please inform Lion Secretary Dale of this person(s) as well.
