"We Serve"
December 2007
President's Message
With the Football Awards Banquet, Christmas Party, and Quad-Club meeting serving in place of our regular meetings in December and early January, it’s hard to believe we will not be together as a club for nearly two months! To an outsider, we Lions may appear to be slowing down for the Holidays, but we know better! We are busier than ever with Christmas tree ornament sales, the Football Awards Banquet, and the Christmas Party. Thanks to the committee chairs (Lions Tom, Chris, and Jerry) of these events for making them a success year after year.
I wish everyone and their families a safe and wonderful Holiday season and hope we all come back in January with renewed spirits so that we may better take-on the challenges of 2008!

Family Christmas Party
On Tuesday, December 18 we will hold our annual Family Christmas Party and it is important that you register your intention to attend, and to indicate how many others you will be bringing with you. Due to the expected larger than normal attendance, we need to notify the caterer of the number of meals we will need. Additionally, if you are bringing a child, we need to know that also so that we can email Santa to tell him to be sure to bring enough presents for all the children.
This gala event will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (where we have met frequently) and will begin at our usual time, 6:15 p.m. The cost will be $8.00 per person ages 11 and up, and a “group rate” of $20.00 for two adults and any children/grandchildren under age 11. Money will not be collected that night but you will be billed in January.
If you have not already registered to attend, and have not yet been contacted, please call Jerry Lorson, Party Chairman, (367-4732) ASAP, to let him know your plans.
Help Needed
And, speaking of the Christmas Party …. If you are available at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, we could use your assistance in setting up the tables and chairs at the church to get ready for the Party that night. You don’t need to contact anyone, just show up at two o’clock ready to work. With sufficient help, the job shouldn’t take but a few minutes.
Greeters
We will not need greeters at the first meeting this month (in Lititz) but for the second meeting, the Family Christmas Party, you will be met at the door and welcomed by Mike Myers and Jay Walmer. Be sure to greet them as you enter the room.
Football Awards Banquet
Thursday, December 6 --6:30 p.m. --General Sutter Inn in Lititz-- Holiday decorations-- great dinner--fun-- high school athletes and their parents and coach --Pat Principe from WGAL --all for just $10.00 per person at the door that night. How can anyone not want to be a part of this? Car pools for our members will depart from the parking lot of the Lutheran Church on East High Street at 5:45 sharp. Be there!
Ornament Sale
Our annual Collectible Commemorative (a.k.a. Lions Club Ornaments) sale is now in full swing. This is an important fund raiser for us so please contact your previous clients, and search for new buyers, to sell them this year’s ornament (shown at left). This is the fifth in a series of these lovely pieces depicting landmarks in our community. There are still a few ornaments left from the previous years if you, or someone you know, missed out on one or more and wish to make their collection complete. The cost of this year’s ornament, or any of the previous ones, is just $10.00 each.
Contact Lion Tom Trayer (361-9851) to obtain your supply of ornaments to sell.
White Cane Day
Thanks to all Lions who assisted with the White Cane Day drive on December 1, and a special thanks to Paul Lesoine who stepped up to chair this event. At the time this newsletter went to press the results of this event were not yet available.
Quad-Club Meeting
Tuesday, January 15 (the third Tuesday) will be the date of the annual gathering of the Lions from Elizabethtown, Mount Joy, Marietta, and Conoy – the famous Quad-Club meeting. This year the event will be hosted by the Mount Joy Lions at the Gathering Place, 6 Pine Street, Mount Joy. No word yet on the menu or program for the evening, but we will car pool from the parking lot of the Lutheran Church on East High Street, departing at 5:45 p.m. sharp.
Board Meeting
There will be NO regular Club meeting on January 8 but there WILL be a Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on that date. The Board meeting will be held at the Fire Hall.
January Lions Ledger
Due to the way the holidays fall this year, the January issue of the Club newsletter will come out on the second Wednesday of January rather than the first Wednesday, which is the
normal publication date.
Happy Holidays!
