Elizabethtown Lions Club
“We Serve”
DECEMBER 2004
President’s Message
The eleven Lions who attended the Region V Rally at Four Seasons had an enjoyable evening. Lion Dean captured a nice door prize, which happened to be our two E-town commemoratives, and several E-town Lions were money winners. Former District Governor, Lion Eleanor Reuter, stole the show with her profuse outpouring of awards to deserving Lions.
Lions Joe and Barney have spearheaded our annual pie sale. They should be recognized for their efforts. Lion Dale has been working diligently in the dual capacity of chairing the Commemoratives and the Football Banquet.
Our next big event to be held on our home turf will be our December 14th Christmas Party. Lion Jerry has again accepted the responsibility of organizing this big event. This is our culminating activity for 2004 so please plan to attend.

Programs for December
Thursday, December 2, 6:30 p.m., in Lititz – This is an “off night” for us but it will be a joint meeting of our Club and the Lions Clubs from Lititz and Columbia. There is more detail in a later article in this newsletter.
Tuesday, December 14, 6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall – This is a regular meeting night for us but the program will be a special one – a Family Holiday event. Again, there is more detail about this meeting in an article later in this newsletter.
Tuesday, December 28 – Although this is the fourth Tuesday of this month, there will be no meeting on this date. Our two meetings for December are listed above.
Greeters for December
Since we will be a visiting Club at the first meeting this month, we will not need greeters when we visit the Lititz Club on December 2. For the Christmas Party on December 14 it will be nice if the President, and all three Vice-Presidents could greet, and welcome the families as they enter the meeting room that evening. Of course, if there are other things which individual officers need to attend to at that time, he should do that and then, if possible, return to the greeting line.
Just a Reminder
The Membership Drive for this year is still in progress. You know a great person who would make a good Lion so now is the time to invite him/her to join, and share the benefits of helping the less fortunate, as well as sharing in the fun and fellowship of our Club.
Football Awards Banquet
Most of you will receive this newsletter on Thursday (those who
receive it via email will receive it in their computers on Wednesday) so there is still time to remind you of the meeting we will have on Thursday, December 2. This will be the annual Frantz-Rider-Yohe Award presentations which will be held following a delicious roast beef dinner at the General Sutter Inn in Lititz. The most outstanding football player from each of the three Sections of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, as chosen by the coaches of each Section, will be honored. Master of Ceremonies will be Pat Principe, from WGAL, Channel 8, and the winning players, his parents, and his coach will be guests of the three Lions Clubs who sponsor these awards.
For the trip to Lititz, members of our Club will form car pools at 5:30 p.m. in the parking
lot of the Lutheran Church on East High Street. Of course, anyone wishing to drive on their own time schedule is welcome to do so. The cost of the dinner will be our usual $8.00, payable at the door, and it will help our Treasurer immensely if you could have the correct amount so he doesn’t have to scramble for change for larger bills.
Family Christmas Party
The second meeting of this month for our Club will be another very special one – the annual Christmas program for Lions and their families. Lion Jerry Lorson has arranged for a special holiday dinner by our caterer, entertainment by Marino, and a visit from … well, who do you think? There will be singing, of course, and the delight of being with young children when the guy in the red suit shows up with gifts is always one of the highlights of the Christmas Season for Elizabethtown Lions. Because this is a family event, a special signup was required so we can know how many meals will be needed and so sufficient gifts can be brought. However, if you haven’t already registered your family’s attendance, you may still do so by calling Lion Jerry at 367-4732, but you must act quickly because the count must be given to the caterer well in advance. Whether you are a long-time member or a new member, this is one meeting you won’t want to miss.
Elizabethtown Commemorative Collectibles
Wow … try saying that quickly three times. The sales of our 2004 Collectible (the Elizabethtown Post Office) are going well. We have offered them at our last two regular Club meetings, and they are now available at several locations in our community. We plan to have an article in the Merchandiser in the December 8 issue which, hopefully, will generate even more interest. So, if you had planned to buy one or more of these as a first time purchase, or to add to last year’s depiction of the E-town Square to keep your set intact, you should not wait until the last minute. We have a limited number to sell (fewer than last year) so stop in at one of the merchants who are selling them, or phone Lion Dale Williams (367-2575) to reserve your Commemorative Collectible. Of course, all proceeds from these sales will go to charity.
