“We  Serve

 April 2006

With deep sadness we announce the death of one of our members, Lion Charles L. Metzger, on         February 24, 2006.  Lion Charlie was formerly a member of the West Chester Lions Club and became active in our Club when he moved to the Masonic Village several years ago.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

President’s Message

Mark your calendars now with all the LION events coming up this month as they fall at odd times and dates.  No meeting or event will take place on the traditional 2nd or 4th Tuesday.  Check the complete schedule which appears in this edition of the newsletter.

Over the past few years this month has been a good month to bring in new Lions and I hope this trend continues.  The goal of Lions in 2006 is, by year's end, to increase total membership by ONE Lion.  I hope you will join me in asking 3 people to consider joining our Club.  If only 3%

of those we ask say yes, we will reach our goal.  So, please ASK THREE FOR ME.  Thanks!

Incidentally, please note that I am going 100% cellular.  Translation:  The only phone

number to reach me at is (717) 666-5270, or you may email me at  lionpreschris@yahoo.com.

Programs for April

This month will be an unusual one compared to most of the other months, but not atypical for April.  It's like this every year in April.

Tuesday, April 11, 6:15 p.m. at the METHODIST CHURCH – the unusual thing here is, of course, the location of the meeting.  This will be the night we gather to color the eggs needed for the annual Egg Hunt.  It's a family affair so bring your children, grandchildren, neighborhood children – and the term "children" means ages 1- 100.  Younger, or older, may also participate if they wish.  Wear old clothes (unless you are a skilled egg painter).  Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, APRIL 18 ,6:15 p.m. in HERSHEY  -- the unusual things here are, of course, that it is on an "off night" for us – the THIRD Tuesday – and that it is out of Elizabethtown.  This will be the annual Tri-Club meeting, with the Hershey Lions serving as host this year.  We will meet at the Italian Lodge, 128 Hillcrest Road, in Hershey.  The cost will be our usual $8.00 at the door that night.  The program is scheduled to be a presentation on the history of Hershey.  Car pools will leave the Lutheran Church parking lot at 5:40 p.m. sharp for any members interested in traveling together.

Egg Hiders Needed

We will need Lions to help hide the Easter Eggs in the Town Park on Saturday morning, April 15 (you can do your taxes after the Egg Hunt is over). Lions will gather at 8:30 a.m. for some idle chatter, a little joking, perhaps some coffee and donuts, and then a few minutes will be needed to hide the many eggs we painted on the previous Tuesday.  The children of the community will begin arriving about 9:30 and the hunt will start on a horn blast at 10:00 a.m.  The hunt usually requires only a few minutes to complete (is that because the children are good hunters, or because the Lions are poor hiders?).  Please plan to help with this project.  It is easy, brief, and important to our community's young people.  Our Club has been doing this for literally as long as anyone can remember and we want to maintain this tradition.  Reserve a little time to be a part of this activity.

White Cane Days Chairman Needed

Lion Andy Maloney has notified the Club that he will be unable to Chair our White Cane Days project this October.  We extend our appreciation to Andy for his past service, and are now seeking a member to serve as the leader of this very important project.  Through this activity we gain donations which assist the visually impaired, collect used eyeglasses, and also get some visibility for our Club in the community.  It is a project which runs smoothly once it is organized, and there are members who can advise with this aspect.  If you are not already serving the Club in some other capacity, please consider stepping up to this opportunity.  It is a worthy cause, but it won't happen without leadership.  Please contact President Chris to let him know you are willing to accept this position.

District Activities

There are several important events conducted by District 14-D during April.  The ones in

which we are asked to participate are:

Ø     Presidents Honor Night – Friday evening, April 21, at Yoder's Restaurant in

      New Holland.

Ø     District Convention – Saturday, April 22, at the Cedar Crest Middle School; in

addition to electing a new District Governor, and Vice District Governor,  there

will be raffles, food, training sessions, and a speaker.

Ø     School Night of Instruction – Thursday, April 27, at the Mount Joy Career and

Technology Center (formerly known as the Vo-Tech School);  dinner will

be served and then there will be training sessions geared specifically to

the various Club offices and positions.  All Club officers should plan to

                        attend this meeting.

Any member wishing to attend any or all of the above activities should contact President Chris or Secretary Dale ASAP for additional information and registration.

Chuckles …

                *  A detective was interviewing a man whose clothing shop had been burglarized.  "It's bad," said the Owner, "but it's not as bad as it would have been if I had been robbed yesterday."  "Why is that?" the detective asked.  "Because today everything is on sale!" answered the man.
